CJ Grand Hotel and Spa
Spring Synopsis: Beautifully remodeled, upscale hotel featuring geothermal heated soaking tubs, swimming pools, and all R & R you can fit into a weekend stay.
Seasonal Accessibility: Open all year, but plan on making a reservation to visit during the weekend. Elevation is 1,150 feet.
Lodging: Full accommodations are available for guests who want to stay overnight or for extended stays; all rooms come with refrigerators. Suites are available with kitchens and Jacuzzi tubs. To really reap the therapeutic benefits of all CJ Grand has to offer, plan on staying at least three days. If you can’t stay overnight but still want to enjoy CJ Grand, stay for the day for just $20 – if you book a spa treatment the entrance fee is included.
Services: Several large banquet rooms are available for group events. Both rooms have hard wood floors, radiant heating, and room for anything from a wedding reception to business conventions. Outdoor swimming pool, six soaking pools, four saunas (soil, salt, ice, and oxygen), lounge rooms with TV, Ice Room, Salt Room, and on the weekends a full restaurant serving freshly made Korean-style foods. Spa services include extensive skin and body treatments.
Restrictions: Clothing is optional in gender specific areas, bathing suits required in all outdoor soaking areas.
The springs: A deep well taps the mineral water in the hot aquifer beneath Desert Hot Springs. The deeper the well, the hotter the water, which causes a higher level of dissolved minerals to be found in the water. This is the case at CJ Grand, where the mineral water is used to fill a huge swimming pool overlooking the Coachella Valley and San Jacinto Peaks.
Several hot spas both indoors and out, offer guests a wide variety of temperatures to choose from. The indoor spa area boasts both wet and dry saunas, and is equipped with a tiled shower area to cool off. Guests can venture right out onto the expansive patio area to enjoy soaking in the outdoor hot pool, or relaxing in the largest mineral water swimming pool in Desert Hot Springs.
There is another soaking area on a private patio separate from the swimming pool, which has an in-ground hot tub averaging 105° degrees, and a huge tiled soaking pool measuring about 20’ x 30’ long.
The saunas are one of the features that really identify this resort as being different than the others in Desert Hot Springs. CJ Grand has two oxygen saunas upstairs (men’s and women’s – clothing optional areas) that are both big enough to house entire yoga classes. Each sauna has Tatami mats for guests to stretch or lay on during their sweat. An additional room of equal size is kept at room temperature, again furnished with mats, so users can cool off comfortably. Still too hot? Then visit the Ice Room, a chilled, all marble and glass sauna-like room where you can actually chill yourself before re-entering the sauna. There’s even a Salt Room where the bricks in the walls and floor are salt bricks – try not to lick them. The entire system is ingenious, beautifully designed, and impeccably kept. We can’t recommend CJ Grand enough. Feel free to peruse other internet resources, but the consensus is 4-5 stars for CJ Grand.
Directions: From Los Angeles follow Interstate 10 toward Palm Springs. Watch for the Palm Drive exit and turn left, following Palm Drive toward the mountains for about 5 miles. Turn right on Hacienda and continue until you see the resort on the right.
Area Attractions: Joshua Tree National Park, Tahquitz Canyon, Desert Hills Premium Outlet Mall, and over 100 champion golf courses in the Coachella Valley.
